Toilet Kit
I keep a toilet kit in the bottom of each of my packs. When I am actually packing I go through the kit and re-supply as needed. I also have a super trowel that I move from kit to kit.
The acceptable procedure for waste elimination is to go far from water sources (at least 200 feet), dig a cat hole (six inches deep), cover the cat hole, pack out all the paper products.
Packing Comments
- Ditty Bag
- A small nylon bag to keep everything together.
- Toilet Paper
- I generally try to remember to take a roll out of use in the house when it has a third to fourth left to end of the roll. Make sure you have enough, but not too much.
- Wipes
- A small travel-sized pack of wet-wipes. These help to clean up after the toilet paper. Also used to clean hands etc.
- Trowel
- Makes it easy to dig a cat hole and cover it. I keep mine in a separate baggy just to keep it away from the other things in the bag.
- Doggy Poop Bags
- Dark plastic poop bags. You wear it like a glove pick up the paper, turn it inside out, and tie it closed. Dark so you can not see what is inside.
- Hand Sanitizer
- If you don't use the wipes to clean your hands, carry a small bottle of sanitizer.
- Feminine Hygiene
- Cycles can get pretty messed up at times like these. Be sure to carry pads and a couple of tampons in your kit as well.
Post-Trip Comments
All worked well and was definitely used. The small Montbell titanium trowel was the best new gear. We even had to use it as a tent stake.
