Campground Cooking Kit
The Campground or car camping cooking kit fits in a small Action Packer. It is a complete and comprehensive kit, separate from the Backcountry Kit.
Packing Comments
- Small Coleman LED lantern
- Uses rechargeable batteries. the light is bright enough without being offending. It would be nice to have brightness control.
- Headlamps
- We also have spare headlamps that we use around camp for cooking and the tent.
- Jet-Boil Stove with the Personal Cooking and Group Cooking Pots
- The stove is powerful yet a fuel miser. It is also heavy, that is why it will spend most of the time in the Campground Kit.
- Zip Stove
- A wood burning stove that is fun to use. We plan on cooking over the fire to make sandwiches with pie pans.
- Skewers
- Ah, the classic for roasting veggie dogs or marshmallows.
- Pie Pans
- An easy way to make grilled sandwiches over the Zip Stove.
- Utensils
- An array of can openers, knives, forks, spoons, ice picks, spreaders, spatulas, etc.
- Coffee Cup
- We will use our traveling cup.
- Bowls
- Guyot Designs Squishy Bowls are our favorite. They are fun to eat out of and easy to clean.
- Cutting Board
- A large plastic cutting board to give us a sandwich making platform.
- Water Carriers
- Plastic, collapsible water containers to store extra water for camp.
- Cooler
- We have a Yeti cooler. It is solid and keeps the food and drinks cold for a few days.
Post-Trip Comments
- Small Coleman LED lantern
- We did not bring it.
- Headlamps
- The headlamps were used every night.
- Jet-Boil Stove with the Personal Cooking and Group Cooking Pots
- Used both in camp and backcountry. We wished that we would have brought other pots and pans for car camping.
- Zip Stove
- We did not use it often, but we did make some good grill cheese sandwiches with it.
- Skewers
- Did not bring
- Pie Pans
- Used for cooking over fires and the stove.
- Utensils
- Oddly enough we broke two knifes spreading peanut butter. I spread a lot of peanut butter!s
- Coffee Cup
- No issues.
- Bowls
- Used the pot or the Origami Bowls instead of the squishy bowls.
- Cutting Board
- Used almost daily.
- Water Carriers
- Ours began leaking so we purchased two Platypus collapsible bottles to use instead. That gave us a total of 4 - 2 liter Platypus containers, plus smaller ones we carried with us in our packs. I don't know how they make the plapus, but I have never had one leak!
- Cooler
- We did not bring the Yeti. One of our biggest mistakes. Instead we brought a small cooler that was hardly ever cool!
