Socks, Etc
We are carrying an assortment of socks to match our footwear. Laundry is not high on our to do list. If at all possible we will throw some suds in the water every two to three weeks. We are packing for 18 to 22 days.
Packing Comments
- Insoles
- All our shoes have Superfeet insoles. We have tried others but we keep going back to the Superfeet.
- Neoprene and Elastic Bandages
- All the supports, braces, and wraps we have laying around the house. We plan to bring quite a selection and keep them in the car or sneak some along if we think we might need them. We know we will have injuries so we might as well bring the bandages instead of having to go to the store and buy ones that we already have at home. Amy is packing several sets of elastic arch supports due to previous issues with the dreaded plantar fascitis.
- Lightweight Socks
- 16 pair - wool blend liners - I wear as socks in tight fitting shoes and as liners in bigger shoes. We almost always carry an extra pair in the pack, an ounce of prevention...
- Midweight Socks
- 12 pair - Thorlo running and hiking socks - cushioned socks for running and scrambling shoes.
- Heavyweight Socks
- 2 pair - Thorlo mountaineering socks - big, thick socks for mountaineering boots.
- Gaiters Low
- Black Diamond standard. These will go with us all the time. They fit on all our shoes and keep out the rock and dirt.
- OR Gaiters
- Regular high gaiters. I don’t like to wear them because they are hot. But they do keep the snow at bay.
Post-Trip Comments
Socks did fine. We carried less than originally planned because we opted to do laundry more frequently.
I used thick socks as often as possible toward the end of the trip to help cushion or pad my feet.
We bought new running gaiters in Leadville. They worked great.
