Backcountry Cooking Kit

We will split up these items between us, but it is the basic gear we will be taking on an overnight trip.

Packing Comments

Stove
Snow Peak titanium canister stove - Works well, but a little under-powered. It's major benefits are the ease of use and light weight.
Fuel
A canister of fuel for the stove to burn. On overnights we will take one canister. We will use the half used canisters while car camping.
Pot
MSR Titanium Kettle - The fuel canister fits nicely inside. The pot is just big enough to boil a couple of cups of water.
Cups
MSR Titanium Cups with a neoprene cozy - The cup is still light with the cozy. The cozy can also be used as a pot holder.
Bowls
Large Origami Bowls - A plastic foldable bowl which stores absolutely flat, like a sheet of plastic. It is not our favorite bowls, but probably the best Backpacking bowl. The sheet can also be used as a cutting board.
Utensils
Spoons and Knife - We use the CGI lightweight blue utensils. They are small, yet just big enough to still work as a good spoon. We will only carry one knife and then only if we have something that will need to be spread.
Seasoning
Salt and Pepper - Nothing special here. Just a little of the condiments to take the bland off of the food. We generally store it in small plastic bags.
Pot Cleaner
Sponge Scrubber - A kitchen sponge cut down to a smaller size and a bit of bio-degradable soap. We boil water for everything so generally we allow the boiling water to clean the pots and cook wear.

Post-Trip Comments

Stove
The Snow Peak stove was light, but slow as compared to the Jet Boil. Toward the end of the trip we did not even carry a stove.
Fuel
We actually had fuel left over.
Pot
The pot was nice, but when we started using the Jet Boil we left it in the car.
Cups
A great cup.
Bowls
An all purpose plastic container.
Utensils
No issues.
Seasoning
Nothing special, we just kept forgetting to bring it.
Pot Cleaner
Didn't bring, just boiled water instead.
