Pre-Climb Comments
Back in the Sawatch’s we will be happy to be on familiar ground. Jake has climbed Shavano before so we should be able to have him with us at least until starting up Tabegauche. If we find the best route, he will be able to climb it as well. He does not do well in fields of big boulders. We have to leave Blank Cabin and drive to San Luis about 100 miles, but it is a thirty mile dirt road at the end.
Post-Climb Comments
Arriving at Blank Cabin Trailhead on July 09, we were rested and ready to climb. To beat all, we scored on a great campsite, maybe the best EVER. The site was on the edge of a field overlooking the valley below and the perimeter mountains. It was pretty spectacular.

Jake stayed in the Element and with Nick, as we left for the climb around six. (By the way Nick had just completed climbing Elbert and Massive in the same day!) It was a quick climb, though really steep. Soon we had climbed Shavano and then traversed to Tabegauche. We climbed Tab last summer and had learned the correct route through trial and error.
Mount Shavano Summit
Returning to Shavano we found Jon and Laura approaching the summit. They were in good spirits and were moving well. We could see it in their eyes, they were going for the two summit day.
It was great to see them succeed and also great for us to summit. It was a hard climb that did not waste too many steps.
