Trail Notes
This is our favorite training trail.
The trails were in good shape when we walked them. However, the rains which brought floods and mud slides at the beginning of May have closed the trails in the Park. We will update (and re-map the trails if necessary) when the trails re-open.
Update - The trails received only minor damage. All the trails are open and in great shape.
There is no water at the Deep Well Trailhead. There is a privy at that location. The Nature Center has restrooms and water.
The Mossy Ridge Trail uses red blazes.
There are two Mossy Ridge mileage signs - one claims the distance is 4.5 miles and the other 4.9 miles.
The Mossy Ridge Trail is rated as moderate. There are some good, steep hills.
There are many horse trail and road crossings. It takes a while to get used to the total Park layout. All the paved roads look the same and they are not named. The paved road is not necessarily a shortcut to any place.
We enjoy doing the Mossy Ridge Trail in either direction clockwise or counter-clockwise.
The trails are easy to follow and are well used.
Be careful crossing all of the Park roads and horse trails.
Dripping Springs is almost always slick. There is a bypass underneath the slippery rocks.
An old friend of mine is found on Tornado Road. It is a beech tree named Pecos. Can you find him?
The trails can be crowded on weekends in perfect weather.
Many runners use the trail.
Many dogs hike the trails, please keep the dogs leashed and under control.
For added fun be patriotic and do the Red (Mossy Ridge), White (Warner Woods), and Blue (Harpeth Woods) trails.
It is a fun adventure to hike or run the trail at night!
