Acclimating Day
Date to Climb: June 09, 2009
Event: Hike in Boulder Open Space
Pre-Acclimating Day Comments
We are looking forward to doing the Gregory Canyon to Ranger Trails on Green Mountain. A few years back, we did this hike and it was great. Just to have something to complain about though, it was very hot, so we might try getting an earlier start than a regular morning around nine time.
There is plenty for us to do in town. We need to shop for dog food, people food, and gear - in particular for shoes. There is a great mountaineering store (Neptune's), a great running store (Boulder Running Company), a great clothing store (Patagonia), and an all purpose outdoors store (REI.) All four stores carry shoes so we will find a pair we really like and are able to try on - instead of ordering online.
It will also be great to visit with our good friend Mark. Can't wait to see 2020, his abode.
Post-Acclimating Day Comments
Amy woke feeling sick with a really bad stomach. She felt that it would be better to stick close to a restroom so we decided to tackle the packing issues. Much to our surprise the issues were compounded by cracks in our Yakima box. After much thought we came up with a solution, pack less weight in the box, epoxy the cracks from both sides, place duct tape on top of the epoxy, and add foam between the box and the rack. We hope it works.
We did not go shopping, other than looking for glues to help repair the box.
It was a good day overall. We missed hiking, but even if Amy felt better we just did not have the time. We were pleased that we were not sore in the least from our climb of Mount Bierstadt.
Update....
The repairs on the Yakima Box worked great. We did have to replace the foam one time during the trip.
