Volunteer Trail, page 2
Trail Notes
Bakers Grove Trailhead and Parking Area was well maintained. The sign indicates they have cameras watching the parking area.
We only saw one other person on the Volunteer Trail.
The Day Loop Trail is blazed orange and the Volunteer Trail is blazed white. I don’t know, but the Volunteer Trail seems like it should have been orange (you know, The University of Tennessee Volunteers - the Big Orange).
The trail is an out and back. It is designed to be an overnight trail, but we easily hiked it in a day.
The trail is relatively flat.
The Volunteer Trail is more of the same things seen on the Day Loop. We did not grow tired of the trail.
Once on the Volunteer Trail (not the joint trail section) there were no more benches.
The Volunteer Trail is more isolated than the other Park trails.
The whole area is another great example of a cedar glade. There was even cactus.
There are sections of the trail that might be hard to follow. If for whatever reason you lose the trail, just continue to follow the shore and you will find the trail again. The trail is well blazed. In the fall when we walked it, the path was indistinguishable.
There was a huge stone fence near the campsites.
The campsites were at a great location.
There were several other unofficial campsites along the way. One of the unofficial campsites even had a white plastic chair!
The boats on the lake make a lot of noise.
Trash along the high water waterline was an issue. The boaters litter.
